Infinity Online Review

Infinity online is a fun free to play action MMO with a game play style reminiscent of Raikon and Dynasty Warriors.

A quick 428 MB download from www.gametribe.com  and a hassle free install sets you up action packed fun which is offered by this game in plenty.

Infinity online is a stage based game which means that there are different linear missions for you to play in order to level up your character and earn the much needed in game cash called ‘Luna’. So, bad luck for people who want to explore massive worlds and go on long boring quests, no such thing happening in this game. But what this game lacks in terms of massive maps and endless quests is more than made up by the fast game play and interesting PvP features and oh! Did I mention that you can even buy two piece bikini outfits for your female characters; now that I say is a treat!

The story of infinity online is really hard to understand during game play as the story is conveyed through the number of cut scenes played at the beginning of each mission. And the scenes are inevitably skipped by the party leader every time a level starts. You can head to http://www.gametribe.com/gt/games/infinity/infinity.jsp and do a little reading yourself and know more about the history of the infinity world.

We get different characters to choose from, they all have their different moves, combos and weapons. Character customization is totally missing from this game so you cannot turn your brunette into a blonde which is disappointing, but you can add new armor, gear and weapons and yes the bikini too but all that comes later on in the game after you have played a few times and have some dough in your pocket. Players even have the option to buy additional characters through the games premium system coughing out some real dough. A very few number of armor sets and weapons are also available in the premium section but it’s easy to pass on it.  At least the premium system is not very unbalanced like in a lot of other free to play games. The more money loaded players don’t get unfair advantage over the less fortunate ones like me.

You will be spending a lot of time in the lobby area of the game because that is where you can access all the modes and the store from. The lobby area is nothing ingenious; it looks like the lobby area of almost any other game out there. The different game modes in infinity online are your normal stage clearing mode – Mission mode, PvP for those intense duels, Intrude is the team deathmatch mode but can be accessed only after level four.  The game mode, training and e-store tabs can be found in the lobby area. The training area is really a good place to start in the game. Just about a couple of minutes of training sets you up for the action in the game ahead. Even the AI dummy training is great as it helps practice for future duels. All the missions are accessed from the mission tab in the lobby. You join an already created mission room or create one yourself, the rooms get full very fast and you can be on your way for some frantic hack and slash. The PvP in infinity online is a lot of fun and it’s addictive too. You have your basic one on one match ups, team death matches and you can also fight with someone with your own set of minions known as guards. You have to buy the guards though, but they are a funny looking bunch and you will have lots of fun playing with guards.

The combat system in the game is pretty simple as most of the moves are based on a combination of the left and right mouse buttons, jump and strafe keys. You also have a few additional keys like the ‘F’ key which is for the death blow, a very lethal attack that each character has. Players also have the option to buy additional moves from the store, known as skills. You can use ‘Luna’ or ‘Kash’ to buy these skills but the most irritating and frustrating part is that you will forget the skills after a limited number of uses or a limited time period. Now I want to ask why on earth would you make a great game and put such a stupid feature in it so that it spoils the feel of the game. I mused over this for a long time and I concluded that most of the developers must have overdosed on pasta and were undergoing a spell of constipation making them very grumpy; hence they put a feature like this to get even with the pasta makers. A very evil move indeed gametribe. The combat system of the game is easy and fun but does get a bit repetitive after a while.

Infinity online has a very child like appearance because of its graphics. This does not mean that the graphics in the game is below par. The characters are rendered very well and even the levels have been nicely done. The game has a very “Walt Disney meets magna” sort of look to it and not in a bad way at all. The CG cut scenes are great for a free game. Gametribe does set the standard in free to play games. Even the dialogues appearing over an NPC’s head during the cut scenes are quirky.  Overall the look of the game is quite childlike and very refreshing. Sadly the same cannot be said about the music and sound effects of the game. The music even though not overtly bad does not stick with you for too long and gets boring after a while. Maybe the techno loving players might enjoy the music for a while. But the music has been mixed very well and has a crisp and clear sound. On the other hand the sound effects in the game will get to your nerves faster than you can say cookoo. Everything that you kill will sound the same and when you have heard the same argh-ah-ohh a million times you will feel like dropping a bomb on the gametribe labs or maybe not, you will just fire up your ITunes and turn down the game volume to zero.

The game has a semi-decent online community which is the case with almost any lobby based game. Everyone’s always in a hurry to start the stage and get on with the game. But there are a lot of players who also take out the time to help you to understand the game better. I made two friends on the first day of playing this game and we have been leveling together since. The game works like butter even on low end systems and it does not lag at all on a decent connection.  Overall Infinity online is a good blend of game play, graphics and lots of hack and slash fun. Definitely worth a try.
